GenX Hits Menopause, E3: Women Are Talking About This Stuff All The Time
Valentine's Day is the perfect day to publish our latest podcast, which is just me and my dear, dear friend Assunta Swier, who hosted Rockstar Blends and other amazing Sarasota women this week at her fabulous annual Galentine's Day event at Assunta Salon and Sanctuary.
Women Are Talking About This Stuff All The Time
Heather and Assunta discuss the various questions and conversations that come up regarding menopause and related health issues among women going through it. Assunta, founder of Assunta Salon & Sanctuary, shares that most women are talking about menopause related issues when they confide their biggest concerns, fears and challenges.
The discussion covers topics like hormone replacement therapy, the depletion of estrogen, and the physical changes that occur during menopause. They also touch on the emotional and relational challenges that can arise during this time. Both Heather and Asunta emphasize the importance of open conversations about these issues and the need to bring men into the discussion as well.
Of course the focus always returns to the importance of taking real care of ourselves and making choices that actually promote health and well-being. Assunta also shares her "five plus one" formula, and some of the science of why it works.

Episode Highlights
The Power of Open Conversation
"I think it's something that a lot of people want to do is open up. We've been taught, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all, be seen and not heard. But one of the things that I think is very empowering to every individual is releasing whatever it is that you are feeling, saying something that might feel uncomfortable to say because you've not said it yet, but you need to say it. I think as long as the delivery is kind and compassionate, it's okay to say that. It's okay to disagree."
Menopause Effects
"It's interesting because I think the thing that is the most interesting is menopause hormones, the depletion of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are never, ever discussed...When we were depleted, everything about our body deteriorate, which is why these young girls and young men are so beautiful effortlessly because their hormones are so balanced and regulated."
Its Time for Women to Thrive
"We're not standing for it anymore. We're not putting up with it anymore. We are not going to sit in a rocking chair and wait to die with some chronic illness. We are doing everything we can to thrive. I mean, this is the time for us to thrive...until your last breath, you should be healthy and out of pain. And that's what it should be."
